An increase in projected state aid doesn’t mean the Janesville School District would seek less in a potential referendum.

Janesville is projected to receive a 5.9 percent increase in state aid.

Chief Financial Officer Dan McCrea says that’s good news as it means taxes will likely being going down.

McCrea say the referendum the district is floating asks to exceed the revenue limit, it’s not a question about equalization aid. If they asked for less on the question, state aid would also go down.

According to DPI, the figures used in the latest estimates may change by a greater than usual amount for the certification of general school aids in October due to a delay in financial data reporting by Milwaukee Public Schools.

Out of all the school districts in Rock County, state aid is estimated to decrease the most for the Parkview School District a 2.34 percent. The Evansville Community School District has the biggest increase at 7.39 percent.
