The Janesville Police Department gets a leg up on investigations that involve electronics such as Internet crimes against children, invasion of privacy, and financial crimes.

Police Chief Chad Pearson says a two-year-old electronic storage device-sniffing K-9 was donated by Operation Underground Railroad.

Pearson says dogs like Maui are invaluable during missing person investigations as they are able to smell the cell phone in a person’s pocket.

Pearson says Maui is also a certified therapy dog who can help out when officers interview victims of trauma.
