Janesville police say the public is safe after an incident on West Holmes street Friday morning prompted authorities to lock down the downtown YMCA building.
Police haven’t given details of the incident, but an officer on scene in the 200 block of West Holmes Street says there’s no active threat to the neighborhood.
At about 11:30 a.m., a big radio reporter saw police on the porch of a house along west Holmes Street, which is in the city’s Fourth Ward, three blocks south of the YMCA of Northern Rock County’s downtown Y.
Police had put the Y on lockdown at about 11 a.m. but officers cleared it to reopen about 15 minutes later.
The officer at the scene on West Holmes Street said police continued to investigate, and they planned to release more info later Friday.
Officials at the YMCA told Big Radio they hustled all kids to a safe place inside the building. They said everyone was safe and secure, and police lifted the lockdown without incident.
