The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty says the School District of Beloit’s grow-your-own multicultural teacher scholarship program is unconstitutional and illegal.
Associate Counsel Cara Tolliver says WILL has sent a warning to the district, and is ready to proceed with legal action if necessary.
Tolliver says WILL supports a grow-your-own scholarship program that’s open to everyone.
The program provides scholarships to students of color from Beloit who major in education, and agree to come back to Beloit to teach after they graduate from college.
The School District of Beloit did not respond to a request for comment by press time.
