A new policy under consideration by the Parkview School District would require parents be notified before any “controversial issues” are taught in the classroom.

The School Districts of Janesville and Milton have similar policies in place that require both sides of an issue to be fairly represented and place limits on what types of personal opinions teachers are allowed to express.

The school board’s policy committee will take another look at the policy Thursday.

Interim Superintendent Wayne Anderson says the new requirement is not a response to any particular issue, but rather, is a proactive measure.
