Beloit police say 34-year-old Beloit resident Thomas O. Sykes is the man police arrested after they say he assaulted an officer in a violent encounter Wednesday.
Police tell WCLO they booked Sykes into Rock County jail on counts of assaulting an officer, trespassing and disorderly conduct in the incident.
It happened about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon in the 800 block of Oak Street on the city’s west side.
Police haven’t given details of the incident, other than to call it a report of an “unwanted subject.”
Police say someone shot a gun during the incident, but they haven’t given details, and they haven’t described what led to Sykes’ encounter with police. Police say nobody was hurt.
Arrest records show Sykes has a history of arrests for drug possession, battery, and theft. Court records show that Wednesday was the second time Sykes has been arrested for assaulting police.
