The Wisconsin Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer Protection is warning those who have suffered property damage from Tuesday’s storms to be wary of scammers.
DATCP Administrator Michelle Reinen says people who they call “Storm Chasers”, will use aggressive, high pressure sales tactics to secure contracts after storms, and will provide low quality work or collect upfront payments and leave without doing work.
Reinen says residents should ask for contractor recommendations from trusted sources, never let a traveling crew into your home, don’t agree to their offers before confirming they are permitted to operate in your area, and get contracts in writing.
People can visit the DATCP website for more info and tips on how to spot potential scammers.
