A June 7th preliminary hearing is set for the 20-year-old Janesville man charged in the brutal stabbing death of his eight-year-old sister.
Dayveon Lathrop appeared before Judge Derrick Grubb Tuesday afternoon for a review hearing on charges of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse.
Judge Grubb found that Lathrop is competent to stand trial and set cash bond at $1.5 million. Lathrop has been held without bail at the Rock County Jail since March after his attorney’s raised the issue of competency.
According to the criminal complaint, Lathrop stabbed his sister to death and then tried to hide her body in a storage tote with bleach and peroxide while their dad was at Menards.
In addition to the cash bond, Lathrop is not allowed to have any contact with the family of the victim, he’s not allowed to possess any weapons, and he can’t consume drugs or alcohol.
