The City of Janesville is getting the lead out. Literally.
Utility Director Dave Botts says the City has applied for a $1.1 million safe drinking water loan from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
There are about 200 lead water services lines left in the City of Janesville. Botts says while the lines themselves are iron, at one point they were connected to lead lines.
Botts says they hope to have them all replaced by 2025.
The public is invited to submit comments to the DNR regarding the potential environmental impacts of the project through June 3rd.
