The Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport in Janesville is getting a new tenant as one regional health care company steps up its regional services.

UW Health plans to open a new Med Flight base at the Janesville airport this summer.

Medical Director Dr. Andrew Cathers says the base will include an ambulance, a general team, and a specialized pediatric and neonatal team.

The move is aimed at improving care for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients with critical illness and injury who need transport from areas south and east of UW’s flagship operations in Madison.

It’s UW Health’s third regional base for Med Flight. The other bases are in Mineral Point and Portage.
