The Janesville City Council decided to vote down a proposed ordinance change which could’ve given them final say on issuing temporary liquor licenses for special events.

City Manager Kevin Lahner says he felt the proposed change was unnecessary, and the current process works and changing it would just add another layer to the process that is not needed.

Council Member Paul Williams, one of two councilors who proposed the change, says he just wanted a timeline on approving licenses and if it went to the council it could be discussed more.

The vote was 2-5, with council members Williams and Heather Miller as the only supporters.
