SSM Health is partnering with both the Beloit and Janesville farmers markets to address food insecurity in Rock County.
Community Health Regional Director Megan Timm says the program allows community members to exchange SNAP dollars for market tokens, which can then be used to buy a number of food items from vendors at the market.
Timm says they’ve actually begun to screen patients at the hospital and ask them if they have access to food or are facing food security issues, and they want to make sure they can provide them with resources to help them.
The Beloit and Janesville farmers markets take place from 8am to 1pm May through October.
