The 16-year-old Beloit boy who was arrested in connection with the April 5th shooting death of 20-year-old Jaiden Benitiz of Janesville is held in the Rock County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.
Andre J. Rainey Jr. faces charges of party to the crime of first degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent of a felony.
According to the criminal complaint, Rainey and another suspect pulled guns on Benitiz and the passenger in his vehicle during a drug deal. When Benitiz tried driving away, Rainey’s accomplice fired several shots, one of which fatally struck him.
Police haven’t released the name of the second suspect who’s actually accused of firing the shots. It’s assumed he remains at large.
Rainey is due back in Rock County Court for an adjourned initial appearance on April 23rd.
