Two Janesville School District teachers remain on leave pending a school district and police investigation into an undisclosed matter involving the two.
Janesville schools says it’s limited in what it can say pending what officials are calling a “due process investigation,” but district spokesman Patrick Gasper says the situation has been turned over to police for an outside investigation in tandem with the district’s own probe.
Gasper says an the district became aware of a matter involving two teachers April 11. He says both teachers remain on leave pending the outcome of the district’s investigation. Gasper otherwise declined to disclose other information about the situation.
Gasper says the district may be able to share “some information” at some point, but he says it’s not clear whether the district’s current investigation and a police investigation could wrap up under the same time frame.
The Janesville Gazette newspaper reports the matter apparently involves “inappropriate messaging,” but the district has declined to elaborate.
The district also has declined to comment on local social media rumors circulating that name specific teachers as those placed on leave in the matter.
“Because this remains an active investigation, we wan share no additional details at this time,” Gasper wrote in an email to WCLO Radio late Tuesday afternoon.
