After a trial period last year, the City of Beloit is officially instituting a No Mow May program this year.

Director of Strategic Communications Sarah Lock says this is a resident driven initiative after a community group came to the city, and a survey saw overwhelming support for the program with nearly 74% of respondents in favor.

Lock says in order to participate in No Mow May, the property owner must register with Beloit’s Community Development Department by May 1st, display a city issued sign in the yard to notify people they’re participating, and ensure grass and weeds don’t grow longer than 12 inches.

No Mow May is voluntary, and those who don’t apply by May 1st will need to comply with the city’s ordinance standards of grass and weeds to not exceed 8 inches.
