The landmark Hanchett-Bartlett Homestead in Beloit could soon belong to a new owner.

Beloit Historical Society Board President Rick Dexter says attendance had been steadily declining at the museum, and they also learned they would need $60,000 or $70,000 to hook up to city sewer services but didn’t have the money at the time.

Dexter says they also learned from a consultant that if they wanted to continue to operate the homestead as a museum, they would need between $800,000 and a million dollars to put in things like a parking lot and ADA accessible features.

Dexter says all of those factors led them to the difficult decision to have to sell the property.

If all goes according to plan, the closing date for the property sale will be May 31st, and the new owner would be Andrew Logan of Fort Atkinson.
