Some Milton High School students are going to be experiencing the construction trades first-hand thanks to an expansion of the South Central Wisconsin Builders Association’s Student Build Program.

Executive Officer Heidi VanKirk says the students – originally enrolled in furniture-making and cabinet-design class – are earning credit while building an addition to Milton Youth Football’s storage facility at Lamar Park.

VanKirk says once interest in the program develops they plan to build a house like they do with students at Parker and Craig High Schools each year.

Van Kirk says it’s important for students, parents, educators, and administrators to understand that construction trades are viable career options that can lead the next generation to secure futures, hopefully right here in their home communities.
