The American Red Cross is assisting two people who escaped a residential fire in the town of Albion Monday morning.

Lakeside Fire-Rescue Chief Randall Pickering says crews were dispatched to the 1400 block of County Highway A, just north of Edgerton shortly after 7:00 a.m.

Pickering says the home was engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived. An adjacent garage-type building also caught fire.

Both victims were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Pickering says wind directions seemed to have accelerated the spread of the fire.
