Mother Nature finally gave us cold enough temps for some possible ice fishing just in time for Free Fishing Weekend across the state this weekend.

Wisconsin DNR Fisheries Team Supervisor David Rowe says Rock County residents hitting the water need to keep both local and state regulations and bag limits in mind, and those can be round by visiting the DNR website.

Rowe says should be aware of ice levels to make sure bodies of water are safe to go on, and four inches is generally enough to support a person, eight inches is enough for an ATV or UTV, but there isn’t enough ice in this area for full vehicles to go on the ice.

Free fishing weekend allows anglers to fish without having to purchase a fishing license or trout and salmon stamp Saturday and Sunday.
