So far six people are seeking three open seats on the Janesville City Council, although there’s still time for candidates to throw their hat in the ring.

Janesville City Council President Paul Benson’s decision not to turn in a declaration of non-candidacy by December 22nd means the deadline to turn in nomination papers is extended by 72 hours.

City Clerk Treasurer Lori Stottler says potential candidates now have until Friday at 5:00 p.m. to turn in papers.

The list of candidates who’ve turned in papers thus far includes newcomers Larry Squire, Josh Erdman, Mathew Gonzalez and Billy McCoy; along with incumbents Aaron Burdick and Paul Williams.

Stottler says there is only one other person who picked up a packet but hasn’t filed any other papers.
