A four building, 88-unit apartment development on Sixth Street in Beloit, continues to have residents divided.
Some citizens spoke out in favor of the project, saying the city needs more affordable housing for young professionals, senior citizens on fixed incomes, and those who can’t afford to buy homes.
Other residents, mostly neighbors to the empty lot located at 1642 Sixth Street, opposed the project because of the possible traffic it could bring to the area and said the project wouldn’t fix the city’s housing or homelessness problems.
The Beloit City Council voted Tuesday night to amend the zoning district map of the city for the property.
