The public got the opportunity to meet the candidates vying for Janesville Police Chief at a meet and greet Tuesday night.

Janesville Interim Police Chief Chad Pearson says they need to not only attract new officers, but make sure they’re taken care of from a mental health standpoint once they’re on the force.

Former Carpentersville police chief Patrick Hoey says making pay and benefits attractive enough to entice potential officers will be crucial to replacing a slew of officers who recently retired from the JPD.

The Janesville Police and Fire Commission meets Wednesday morning to vet the two candidates, and an offer could be made by end of the week.
