The 2023 Veteran of the Year of the 1st Congressional District is a Vietnam Veteran from Janesville.

U.S Representative Bryan Steil of Janesville paid a visit to VFW Post 1621 (Monday) morning to present Sergeant Al Pacheco (pa-check-oh) with the award.

Pacheco received both a purple heart, and a bronze star after being injured by a roadside bomb on November 3rd of 1966.

Pacheco was nominated by by Vets Roll Present Mark Finnegan.
