The name of the individual who died in the Rock River Sunday after their canoe capsized has been released.

According to a release from the Rock County Medical Examiner’s office, 60 year old Roger Wentler of Janesville passed away from accidental drowning.

Around 4:45 Sunday afternoon first responders found two people on the river’s bank between the Milwaukee Street bridge and the Janesville Town Square pedestrian bridge. The two individuals had self-rescued and were removed by portable ladders.

Multiple witnesses stated that a third person was in a canoe that had an issue and capsized and A the body was located and pulled from the water within an hour and forty-five minutes of the initial call.

The incident remains under investigation by the Janevsille PD and the county’s medical examiner’s office.
