There are more than twenty seven hundred public fire hydrants in Janesville, and every single one will be getting looked at during the city’s hydrant flushing program next month.

Utility Superintendent Craig Thiesenhusen says the program serves two purposes, first to inspect the hydrants and make sure they are operating properly, and secondly to flush out the hydrants and remove any sediment from the mains.

Thiesenhusen says the program starts October 2nd and runs for roughly two weeks, and they’ll start at the center of the city and work their way out.

If residents notice any discolored water during flushing, they’re encouraged to run cold water in their bathtubs until it clears.
