Janesville Police are using a well-known deer who was poached in 2021 as an education tool on safe and ethical hunting.

Janesville Police Sergeant Drew Severson says when hunter Jason Kline posted a photo of a large buck he harvested in Janesville, people noticed.

The 200-inch, 12 point buck had been well-documented by Department of Public works employees, Rock County Sheriff’s Office workers, landfill workers, and even police officers fueling their squad cars.

Kline was trespassing on private land when he shot the deer with a bow, and then he failed to register it in the allotted amount of time.

The deer nicknamed Dump Buck says confiscated from Kline and turned over to Nature’s Touch Taxidermy, who donated their services. Janesville Police are now trying to decide where to display the mount.
