It doesn’t appear that the City of Janesville will have a new police chief hired before the current one retires.

Police Chief David Moore’s last day with the City is September 22nd.

The City of Janesville posted a brochure for the police chief position on its website and opened up the application period on Friday.

Applications will be accepted until September 17th.

Assistant to the City Manager Nick Faust says the Police and Fire Commission is doing a nationwide search, seeking both internal and external candidates.

Faust says the Deputy Chiefs of Police will manage day-to-day operations at the department if there’s any overlap between when current Police Chief David Moore retires, and the new chief is hired.
