The Janesville Fire Department (JFD) is excited to welcome a special Firepup from the National Fire Safety Council. In an effort to keep Janesville safe from fire, the lovable Dalmatian mascot will be helping the JFD teach children the importance of fire safety. Throughout the year, the fire department will promote fire prevention with talks and presentations, and the community’s children will begin to meet the Firepup at their school and local events.

While the pup’s message of being fire-safe is clear, its name is not. That’s why the department is asking Janesville for help in a special Firepup Naming Contest. Through June 16, children ages Pre-K to 5th grade, from the Janesville Community can submit entries by following the JFD’s Facebook page and then direct messaging their submissions.

Following the contest deadline, department staff will vote on names to select a winning entry. The winner and an adult chaperone, if required, will be invited to join the Firepup for a special lunch with the JFD crew. The community will then be able to meet the newly named mascot at outreach events throughout the summer!
