Artifacts from Janesville and Rock County’s brewing past are being discovered at an archaeological dig site on Janesville’s north side.

Recent Craig graduate and dig participant Michael Palmer says they’ve discovered bottles, machinery, and even the tunnels where beer was kept cold before the invention of refrigeration.

Fellow digger Rob Bier says brewing and saloons are a big part of the counties history, as the owners would often donate to projects which turned into Riverside Park or the hospital and saloons were an integral part of the town.

Palmer and Bier hope to soon have a website up detailing all of the finds at the site on the north side of Janesville.
