Students from Beloit Memorial High School had a successful weekend at the Globe Midwest Research Symposium in Madison.

Welty Environmental Center Executive Director Brenda Plakans says Oliver Devlin won Best Research Process for his project studying the effects of leaf litter and Mariela Sandoval won Best Use of Globe Protocols for her study on how temperature impacts maple syrup flow.

Plakans says Globe is a program that teaches students K-12 a hands on approach to the scientific method, and they learn various earth science protocols so they can take measurements that verify and support NASA satellite data.

Juniors Payten Forbes, Kameron Lounsbury, Noah Moser, and Keala Eaton compared the moisture content in soil in native gardens and cultivated lawns on schools grounds and presented their research at the symposium.
