Alliant Energy plans to break ground on a 2.25 megawatt community solar garden in Janesville this fall.

The solar garden will be located east of the Rock Haven Assisted Living facility on 22 acres of Rock County-owned land. At maximum output the community solar garden could power up to 1,800 homes annually.

Alliant customers have the option to purchase solar blocks at a cost of $337 each.

Once the solar garden is constructed, the energy it produces will go back onto the grid to power the community, but those who purchase solar blocks will receive a credit on the electric bill for 20 years.
