A 30-year-old Beloit man who was shot by a Beloit police officer as he lunged for her gun has his sentence withheld for three years of probation with six months of conditional jail time.

Last month Jorge Bautista-Almaraz plead no contest to a single felony count of attempt to disarm a peace officer. A second charge of criminal damage to property was dismissed but read into the record.

Bautista-Almaraz was shot December 15th of 2021 when police say an officer attempted to check on his mental welfare.

During the encounter police say Bautista-Almaraz repeatedly lunged at the officer. He was shot twice.

The officer has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

Bautista-Almaraz must report to jail no later than April 9th.
