Monday night the Janesville City Council unanimously approved the purchase of 129 acres of land on County Highway G, south of the Dollar General facility, with an option to purchase an additional 267.5 acres for future industrial use.

Economic Development Director Jimsi Kuborn says successful industrial parks are the history of Janesville, and the purchase of the land will help the city compete and bring in new businesses.

Kuborn says the initial purchase of 129 acres has a price tag of 4,515,000 dollars, while the potential future purchase of the additional 267.5 acres would cost 9,363,200 dollars.

The city plans to close on the purchase of the initial 129 acres within the next 60 days.
