hydrant-flushing-3

An annual fire hydrant maintenance program will see the nearly twenty seven hundred public hydrants in Janesville flushed starting next Monday.

Water Utility Superintendent Craig Thiesenhusen says the flushing serves a couple different purposes, the first being that the hydrants are operational and drain properly and the second is to cleanse the system and eliminate any residuals so residents don’t have dirty water.

Thiesenhusen says residents may experience water discoloration during the flushing and if they can run cold water in their bathtub or a utility sink to clear the plumbing. If after following those steps the water doesn’t clear, people can call Janesville Water Utility.

The flushing begins next Monday and will take place weekdays between the hours of 5:00am and 11:00am.
