A 27-year-old Janesville man accused of selling the heroin that caused an overdose death in December of 2019 is headed to trial

Janesville Police Detective Thomas Bechen testified during Joseph VanGampler’s preliminary hearing in Rock County Court last week.

VanGampler is charged with party to the crime of first degree intentional homicide by delivery of drugs.

Another man, 27-year-old Ashante Byrd was sentenced to 18 months in prison in October of 2021 for giving the drugs he got from VanGampler to the victim, and moving the victim’s body to a vehicle after he overdosed.
