To continue the process of becoming a city department, the Whitewater Fire Department and Whitewater sign a non-binding contract this week called Memorandum of Understanding. WFD Board of Directors President and Fire Division Active Captain Christ Christon says WFD is still its own private entity. Christon says it’s primarily a paid-on-call service, meaning no scheduled fire fighters in the fire division are present unless it’s an evening shift. He says it’s the old school volunteer set-up where if you can respond to the call, you respond to it. According to a news release, a complete merger between the city and WFD is anticipated to happen mid-summer.
