Two people are under arrest, accused of passing stolen checks at businesses in Monroe.

According to a news release, Monroe Police stopped a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of 6th Street following an investigation into check forgery.

The driver, 38-year-old Daniel J. Thurman of was arrested on arrested on suspicion of being party to the crime of forgery and also charged with driving without a valid driver’s license.

The passenger, 35-year-old Jennifer K. Panos of Monroe was arrested on suspicion of five counts of forgery.

Monroe Police are working with officers in Freeport, Illinois, where the checks were stolen, on the investigation.
