A 24-hour diner is in the works for downtown Janesville.

Restauranteur Mike Jonas is moving forward with plans to open the Lucky Ducky Diner at 13 North Franklin Street, near the former Chase Bank building on Milwaukee Street.

Janesville’s alcohol license advisory committee is recommending approval for the restaurant liquor license, which will still need to be formally approved by the city council.

In his application, Jonas described it as a full-service, “unique diner experience with a cocktail menu,” although alcohol sales won’t be allowed after bar time as part of the city’s ordinances.

The property has seen a number of businesses come and go in recent years, but none of the previous tenants offered 24-hour service.

Jonas also operates Cattails Bar in Delavan and Freedom Hall on County Highway A near Elkhorn.

He hopes to open the Lucky Ducky Diner in Janesville in mid-October.
