A new farmer’s market is coming to Janesville, starting this week.

The Janesville Muslim Dawa Circle received city approval to start the Janesville Open Market on its property at 200 South High Street.

Mosque director Salih Erschen said it follows their religious tradition to start up a public market after establishing their place of worship.

The goal of the weekly event is to bring fresh, healthy foods into Janesville’s Fourth Ward neighborhood, which Erschen called a “food desert.”

The Janesville Open Market will run every Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Erschen is still accepting additional vendors. This week’s inaugural market will feature live music from Abdusamad Zantow.
