An elderly man suffering an apparent medical emergency crashes his vehicle into a home in South Beloit.

Fire Chief Dan Zerfass said the driver lost control of the vehicle and went over the curb before striking the multi-family residence on the 500 block of Gardner Street.

The front of the home was previously a storefront but now houses a resident who was unharmed in another room during the crash.

Zerfass said the driver appeared unconscious when firefighters arrived on scene, but the airbags protected him from more serious harm in the crash that totaled the vehicle.

He was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The resident in the front of the property was displaced as a result of the damage.
