An 850-foot gap in public access to the riverfront between downtown Beloit and Riverside Park is filled.
The newly constructed Beloit Powerhouse Riverwalk is now open to the public.
Beloit Director of Strategic Communications Sarah Lock says while the path is owned and maintained by the City of Beloit, construction was made possible through a public-private partnership involving Alliant Energy, Beloit 200, Beloit College, Kerry Ingredients, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation.
Lock says the Riverwalk is immediately adjacent to the Beloit Powerhouse, a combined student and community center, being revitalized by Beloit College in a decommissioned Alliant Energy power plant.
Lock says a ribbon cutting celebrating this infrastructure enhancement will be planned for a later date.
