Attorneys hope prison time will help a Clinton woman with her addiction issues that led to a hit-and-run that caused serious injuries.

34-year-old Ann Zimdars pleaded guilty Thursday to hit and run involving great bodily harm, and Rock County Judge John Wood followed a joint recommendation in sentencing her to three years in prison and three years of extended supervision.

Charges of reckless driving causing great bodily harm, knowingly operating while suspended and obstructing an officer were all dismissed but read into record as part of the plea agreement.

She was accused of driving an SUV into a minivan near the intersection of Portland and Lincoln avenues in Beloit back in January, causing the other driver to suffer multiple fractures and a brain bleed.

Zimdars fled the scene of the crash and tried to escape Beloit police.

During her sentencing hearing, she apologized to the court and the victim, expressing a desire to overcome her addictions and turn her life around.
