The impact of COVID-19 is apparent in the latest jobless report from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics reported a 17 percent unemployment rate in Rock County for the month of April, more than quadrupling March’s rate of just 3.8 percent.

Rock County ranks near the middle of the state in unemployment rate, with counties ranging from 26.2 to 9.7 percent.

The data shows Janesville was hit slightly worse than Beloit, with the city of parks at 18.4 percent, while the stateline community sits at 17.2.

The Janesville-Beloit metropolitan area shows a decrease of roughly 8,400 jobs from March to April.
