Authorities say they’ve turned over a jail stabbing arrest to the Rock County District Attorney’s office, seeking attempted homicide charges.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office says a jail inmate identified as homeless man Phillip Fung Li of Fitchburg is suspected of stabbing another inmate Tuesday morning at the Rock County jail.
The sheriff’s office hasn’t released details in the stabbing. But a report indicates the sheriff’s office describes a stabbing of an unnamed inmate.
The sheriff’s office says it collected a silver knife thought to be used in the stabbing, along with other evidence, including a bar of soap and a comb.
The unnamed inmate who was apparently stabbed is 27. Their condition is not immediately available.
The sheriff’s office is asking the Rock County D.A. to review the case on suspicion of first-degree attempted homicide.
Court records show Fung Li has had a history of violence. He faces sentencing in August Rock County an unrelated earlier first-degree reckless injury in a 2023 shooting in Beloit.
He’d been on probation for a previous 2021 knife attack in Madison. In that case, Fung Li was accused of flashing a b.b. gun at a person during a fight over money, then slashing the person with a knife and dousing them with pepper spray.
