The closure of two middle schools in Beloit means more students will be attending Aldrich, and thus upgrades are needed to the school’s commons area.

Executive Director of Business Services Bob Chady says there are concerns about having sufficient serving, seating, and even cooking space at Aldrich with the current commons area so a possible expansion project may be necessary.

Chady says the district recently found out it is out of compliance in food service spending and has a surplus in the fund, and this type of project would be covered by money from the surplus.

The project is estimated to be around $22,700, and since it is less than $50,000 it would not need school board approval.
