The City of Janesville is looking at increasing river safety at Anglers Park, where young girl was swept away by the current last weekend.

Public Works Director Paul Woodard said possible additions could include signage and flotation devices similar to what the city installed near the downtown town square pier.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Department recovered the body of 9-year-old Madison Billups from the river early Monday afternoon after she was last seen the evening of June 25.

Anglers Park, near the former Monterrey Dam site, includes a shallow sandbar along the river’s north shore not far from the deeper, faster current.

Woodard expects the city to announce its full plan for safety improvements at the site sometime next week.
