The Beloit Police Department and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department announce an arrest made in connection with the killing of a Janesville man whose body was found in Beloit in April.

28-year-old Davonte Hyler was already in custody in the Rock County Jail when authorities served a warrant for a homicide charge in Winnebago County on Wednesday.

Hyler is accused of shooting and killing 18-year-old Jwan Lamon of Janesville. Lamon’s body was found in the 1600 block of Royce Avenue in Beloit on April 14 but investigators determined the shooting happened five days earlier in South Beloit, Illinois.

Court records show Hyler is currently facing a felony charge in Rock County Court for possession of a firearm by a felon from April 20, just 11 days after the suspected homicide.

He is being held in the jail on a $500 cash bond and will await extradition to Winnebago County for the murder charge.

Hyler has previous felony convictions in Rock County dating back to 2010 for burglary, aggravated battery and fleeing officers.
