A local community is closing a downtown street to help restaurants attract more customers. The city of Whitewater is closing off First Street between Main and Center for the rest of the summer. City officials says most restaurants are limited in the number of patrons they can seat inside because of social distancing guidelines, so a street filled with picnic benches should allow more diners a safe place to eat. The street will be treated like a city park and visitors are expected to clean-up after themselves.
